Public service announcement: your ability to move better is already inside you, all you’ve got to do is FEEL it.
Water is a unique place to exercise. Buoyancy provides freedom to move with ease, and moving against resistance helps you get stronger.
The question is:
How do you know if you’re doing the right moves to get the results you want?
How do you measure effort?
I’ll give you a hint: It’s the most overlooked mechanism that drives results.
It’s the feel of moving in water itself.
So, the questions then become:
How do you use your hands, feet, arms, and legs to engage every muscle?
How do you measure if what you’re doing will get results you want?
You need to know what sensations you should feel.
After 30 years of teaching water exercise, I’ve developed simple ways to help people use water and get results they can feel. The next step is up to you, because you can’t solve joint pain, get stronger or burn maximum calories the same way for every workout. Every person is different. Every day is different.
And that’s why you need to learn how to follow the feel.
When you find the feeling of the movement and your workout, here’s what happens:
1. It awakens your senses.
You’ll actually discover the exercises your body needs to reach the goals you’ve set yourself. And it doesn’t matter what stage you’re at! That’s the beauty – it’s about you, wherever you are in your movement journey.
Imagine it: you and a friend just finished the same workout.
You say, “My knees really needed that gentle mobility today” while your friend says, “I could really feel my heart pumping with those high intensity intervals.”
Not only is that sort of varying experience possible, it’s the kind of response I get regularly from my students. Once you learn how to follow the feel you’ll know exactly how to move in your perfect form — and get results because you will know know exactly what your body needs on that day, in that moment.
2. You’ll start to use the water in a totally different way.
This means you’re on the fast-track to bigger and better results from your water exercise. Just by feeling! These workouts make movement even more fun to do and incredibly rewarding.
3. You’ll learn skills to use in every workout.
This means this art of feeling your way to better results can be applied to workouts with me on YouTube, the sessions inside WECOACH Workouts, or with an instructor at your local pool. Even yoga classes, Pilates sessions, or a gym workout with a buddy – this is a new way of movement that will change everything.
Try this drill to improve hip function. Not only will you learn how to use your hands to train your hips, but you’ll find out what your hips need to keep flexible and strong. It’s like personal training, guided by your coach, customized by you.
Remember: your ability to move better is already inside you. All you’ve got to do is FEEL it.
